Whilst on holiday recently in Costa Rica, we broadcast a couple of shows live that featured a smattering of what else but Costa Rican music!

Whilst having a root around for music to fit the bill, a flautist by the name of Tupac Amarulloa started cropping up. Cropping up as in it became clear quite quickly that this guy has composed and played some fantastic music but at the same time the playback stats suggest he is criminally underplayed.

Born in Costa Rica in 1975, he studied classical and jazz flute in Belgium and now teaches at Universidad Nacional in his homeland. He has released 2 albums available on Spotify – Sibo (2016) and Garden of the gods (2018) -along with some compositions available on Bandcamp.

Pattern Radio live in Costa Rica featured 2 tracks from the former and that is our pick of the two, albeit by a slender margin. Long tracks with jazz, classical and electronic themes and the musicians all play with a connection that makes a difference.
