Whilst getting some music together for a recent radio show I stumbled across a track called Flug 164 by an artist I hadn’t heard of called Kosmischer Läufer. The tune is stunning and further investigation has made me wonder why I haven’t heard of this artist before because the music is fantastic. If this is news to you also and you are a fan of early electronic music and pioneering artists such as Neu! then read on.

Seems an interesting story behind it also. The guy behind the music is Martin Zeichnete who originally worked as a sound engineer for German film organisation DEFA. He apparently had a sideline recording music for GDR athletes to train to and if I remember rightly from my childhood they did OK at the Olympics. This body of music is largley what Kosmischer Läufer is about.

The music was largely recorded between 1972–83 and there are 5 volumes of collected material from this period and its intriguing music to say the least.
